Valedictorian
Awarded to: Natasha Tan Hui Ying (Grade 12)
Salutatorian
Awarded to: Anna Meredith Greer (Grade 12) & Shagun Dhaliwal (Grade 12)
About the Awards: The Valedictorian (highest ranked) and Salutatorian Awards (second-highest ranked) are given in recognition of outstanding academic performance. To be eligible for these awards the student must have a cumulative average of six semesters from an American-system school and have attended ISKL for at least two semesters prior to graduation. The student’s class rank is computed at the end of six semesters and is adjusted at the end of the eighth semester to determine the final rank. The class rank is computed in two ways, either based on marks for six semesters in an American-system school or on easily converted marks from other systems or, based on all work done at ISKL or in a similar system.

About the Awards: Academic awards for departments are decided within department teams and focus on academic achievement. Each Award recognizes the student who shows a high achievement level in the subject, exceeds the expectations and requirements of the course, and aids peers’ learning through clear understanding and perceptive insights. In short, each student is “top of the class”.
EARCOS Global Citizenship Award
Awarded To: Isabella Jokela (Grade 11)
About the Awards: The East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS) Award is presented to the Grade 11 student who embraces the qualities of a global citizen. This student is a proud representative of his/her nation while respectful of the diversity of other nations, has an open mind, is well informed, aware and empathetic, concerned and caring for others, encouraging a sense of community and strongly committed to engagement and action to make the world a better place. Finally, this student is able to interact and communicate effectively with people from all walks of life while having a sense of collective responsibility for all who inhabit the globe. The student:
- Understands the interdependence and interconnectedness of both human and ecological issues
- Demonstrates strong collaborative, problem solving, listening and consensus building skills
- Strives to be well informed on global issues
- Consistently demonstrates a sense of intrinsic voluntarism
- Exhibits extraordinary leadership skills
- Is committed to being an active participant in the coming year’s leadership responsibilities
- Is in “good academic standing”

Harvard Book Award for Outstanding Junior
Awarded To: Tanmay Gupta (Grade 11)
About the Award: The Prize Book of the Harvard Alumni Association is awarded to the outstanding student in Grade 11 who “displays excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields.”
Hee Won Bahk ‘94 Award for International Understanding
Awarded to: Alia Afifah Mohamad Fouzi (Grade 12)
About the Award: This Award is given to a bilingual student in Grades 9-12 who has demonstrated a positive attitude towards the life and culture of others, who is a contributing force in the life of the school, able to bring differing people together and further the cause of international understanding. These attributes reflect the qualities of Hee Won Bahk, Class of 1995 who was killed in the Highland Tower tragedy in December, 1993. At the time of her death, Hee Won was the student body secretary, a member of numerous organizations (MUN, Forensics, NHS), a top student, as well as being highly respected by her peers and faculty.
John G. Hawden Award, Outstanding Senior
Awarded to: India Elizabeth Cooper (Grade 12)
About the Award: Named after John Hadwen, Canadian High Commissioner to Malaysia (1967-1972), this Award recognizes a Senior student who has had the most positive and dynamic overall impact on the ISKL community in the fields of service, scholarship, sportsmanship and character.

About the Award: The lifer award is presented to students who have attended ISKL for all 12 years of their Elementary, Middle, and High School education. This degree of longevity is unusual in an international school so the ISKL Lifer Award celebrates this unique relationship between the student, the family, and ISKL. This recognition is in appreciation of their long term contribution to our school community.
Principal’s Award
Awarded to: Kabeer Chauhan (Grade 12)
About the Award: This award is given at the discretion of the Principal on behalf of the high school faculty in recognition of an outstanding graduating senior who embodies the international spirit of ISKL, is a consistent and outstanding contributor and performer within the academic and co-curricular program of the school, and is widely respected by peers and faculty.
PTA Visual & Performing Arts
Awarded to: Tatiana Chew Ee Ling (Grade 12)
About the Award: This Visual & Performing Arts Award was initiated in 1987 by the PTA. The Grade 11 and 12 recipients must demonstrate outstanding creative performance, be actively involved in the visual and/or performing arts, and be a role model for other students.
Rensselaer Medal
Awarded To: Tanmay Gupta (Grade 11)
About the Award: The Rensselaer Medal Award honors one outstanding math and science student in their Junior year. The Medal recognizes academic achievement and aims to motivate students towards a career in science, engineering, and technology. This is an externally validated award with the candidate submitted to Rensselaer for evaluation. If a Medal recipient enrolls at Rensselaer, the official Rensselaer Medallion will be presented during an Honors Convocation in the fall of the first year at Rensselaer.

About the Award: The Robert B. Gaw award is sponsored by ISKL’s Parent Teacher Association ( PTA), and recognizes Grade 9-12 students who demonstrate exemplary citizenship and have made a positive contribution to ISKL. Academic and athletic accomplishments are not a criteria for this award. The intent of the PTA is to recognize students who contribute to ISKL in a positive way, exemplify the international aspect of the school, demonstrate courtesy to teachers, staff and fellow students, show respect for the rights of others and are gracious in dealing with success as well as disappointment.
Robert B. Gaw was a Head of School at ISKL from 1970-1978.
Scott Smith Memorial ‘76 Award, Outstanding Athlete

About the Award: This Award recognizes one outstanding male and female student-athlete in Grades 9-12 based on their athletic ability, leadership, and sportsmanship. The Award is dedicated to the memory of Scott Smith, Class of 1976, an outstanding student-athlete who was killed in an automobile accident in 1980.
The Scott Smith Award is decided based on the following criteria: 50% Athletic Ability, 30% Leadership, 20% Sportsmanship. Recipients are selected by ISKL coaches, must have participated in at least two varsity sports, and have received at least two of the following awards:
- IASAS or ISKL record (for swimming and track and field only)
- IASAS gold, silver, or bronze team medal
- Any IASAS individual medal (for cross-country, swimming, and track and field only)
- IASAS all-tournament selection
- ISKL Award (Coaches, Most Improved Player, Most Valuable Player)
- ISKL Captain
Troy Marschang ‘07 Award
Awarded to: Marthanne Campbell Davis (Grade 12)
About the Award: The Troy Marschang Award is presented to the Senior who has participated in the most IASAS events during the course of his or her ISKL High School career. The Award is dedicated to the remembrance of Troy Marschang, Class of 2007, who participated in a total of 17 IASAS tournaments/conventions from 2004-2007.
