K-12 Service and Sustainability Collaboration
Collaboration is key to problem-solving and achieving tangible outcomes. Here are the educators who have been promoting Service Learning and Service and Sustainability initiatives at ISKL:
Elementary School (ES) Service & Sustainability: Val Vieytes and Jen Hardie
Val and Jen are the Service Learning and Sustainability Coordinators for ES. Val is an Early Interventionist for PRPJ, and Jen is a Grade 3 class teacher. They are both excited to continue working towards a trash-free ES goal and supporting students in the ES Earth Club to carry out initiatives in their grade levels and school.
Middle School (MS) Service & Sustainability: Traci Massey
Traci is the MS Service and Sustainability Coordinator/Grade 6 Humanities Teacher and Grade 6 Service Learning Teacher. She hopes to bring a programmatic approach to Service and Sustainability to MS. Her goal is to form a committee of teachers and students to add aspects of Service and Sustainability to the Middle School’s Agency work. In doing so, she hopes to reinstate old partnerships that ISKL has had with organizations in Malaysia and create new working relationships with others.
High School HS Service & Sustainability: Amy Popovich and Chika Kumashiro-Wilms
Amy teaches in the HS Mathematics Department. She initiated the Trash Hero KL group, successfully collaborating with different groups and business organizations in KL. She has been actively involved in composting and other service-learning initiatives at ISKL. Chika also oversees the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Program in the IB Diploma Program, and teaches IB Japanese A: Language and Literature.
