PANTHERS OF ISKL #59 – Julius, Lachlan & Nur Hidayah – The Young Prowlathon Champions

Julius RG., Lachlan R., Nur Hidayah - Panthers of ISKL

This week we met up with Julius, Lachlan, and Nur Hidayah, the top three winners of the ISKL Annual Prowlathon fundraiser last month, who happen to all be students from Grade 7 in Middle School!

Over seven days, the students clocked in their combined distances, with Lachlan R. winning first place by running and cycling (converted to its running equivalent) 66.23 km, Julius RG. coming in second by running and walking 61 km, while Nur Hidayah came in third place by walking 23 km.

The students walked away with some fantastic prizes. Lachlan won a Panther Hut Goodie Basket, Julius a House of Taste Popcorn Party for his class, and Nur Hidayah went home with a Cookies and Sweets treat basket!

Here are their stories.

The young Prowlathon Winners

Why did you join the ISKL Prowlathon? In what way did you participate in the Prowlathon? What method did you use?

  • Lachlan: I joined the ISKL Prowlathon because I like running, and I wanted to raise money for those in need. I run every day, so that’s why I managed to complete so many kilometers. My family supported me and we all walked together as well most days.

  • Julius: I joined the ISKL Prowlathon to push myself as well as have fun and I did a bit of running as well as biking.

  • Nur Hidayah: I feel fortunate to have taken part in the Prowlathon, and I think it’s an excellent start for a new student like myself. For me, I went for walks with my mother every day.

How did you feel when you found out you were in the Top 3? What challenges did you face during the Prowlathon? What kept you motivated?

  • Lachlan: I was really excited to have done so well. I was motivated by my school family, and friends. I also really wanted the gift basket!

  • Julius: I felt terrific considering I was up against Middle and High Schoolers, but the one challenge I faced was finding the time to do it due to school work, ice hockey, online classes, soccer, and spending time with the family which kept me all busy! I will not lie, but what kept me motivated the most was the popcorn party prize!

  • Nur Hidayah: I felt like I was on top of the world, and I said to myself, “You made it, Hidayah!” I tried to stay positive and be determined. My homegroup teacher, Ms. Jennifer Collins, also kept me motivated every day through her words of encouragement!

What have you done so far with your prizes and how can the Prowlathon be improved for the next time?

  • Lachlan: I have been wearing all the merchandise that was in my gift basket! And if anything can be changed, I would suggest having separate running/walking and cycling categories to remove some of the confusion about logging distance.

  • Julius: I shared my popcorn prize with my whole class! The Prowlathon was a cool experience, however, I do believe the conversion of cycling distances to its running equivalent was a little confusing for logging in the daily distances.

  • Nur Hidayah: I shared my basket of food with my beloved family, and I think the Prowlathon could be improved by having a shorter participation duration of just five days instead of including the weekends.

Besides the Prowlathon, what are your other hobbies and interests?

  • Lachlan: Hanging out with friends, playing basketball, and in general staying active. I wakeboard most weekends and love Australian Rules Football.

  • Julius: I love all sports!

  • Nur Hidayah: I love cooking so much. Every school holiday, I try to learn to cook something new with my mother. Usually after school, I will play badminton or exercise with my brothers.

What are your best memories at ISKL thus far and what do you like most about the school?

  • Lachlan: What happened yesterday, and the day before that – because every day is spectacular at ISKL! I like the people, school cafeteria, view of the city, teachers, learning style, and facilities.

  • Julius: One of my best memories was the Ipoh field trip, and what I love about ISKL is the diversity of the community, the facilities, and all the people.

  • Nur Hidayah: Two days after I first joined ISKL, the country went on lockdown. So my best memory at ISKL so far is being in the top three in the Prowlathon! What I like most about ISKL would be the teachers because they give me a lot of support and encouragement to be in this place. My friends in ISKL are very supportive and friendly too.

Any words of advice for future Prowl-athletes?

  • Lachlan: Get your family involved and enjoy what you do.
  • Julius: Keep going and have fun!

  • Nur Hidayah: Be disciplined and truthful.

What does “Be All You Are” mean to you?

  • Lachlan: To me, it means to be the best version of yourself.

  • Julius: I think it means to be the best you can possibly be.

  • Nur Hidayah: Just being myself and being in the present.
