Everyone is new and is probably feeling just as nervous as you are. Don’t be afraid to go out and introduce yourself to new people, and if you’re interested in certain things, join an organization or club! It’s an excellent way to make this new huge place seem just a little bit smaller, because ultimately what you put into college, will be what you get out of it.
ISKL and especially my teachers gave me a world of support growing up. I wanted to pass that on to the next generation. I want today’s teachers and kids to always feel they have the resources they need
Stuart, who says he had “NO training, no artistic talent” took up pewtersmithing and, 39 years later, continues to work the metal for which Malaysia is famous, side by side with his pewtersmith wife, Karen.

With the stunning backdrop of the KL city skyline visible from the Elementary School rooftop venue, ISKL’s Parent Alumni came together for an evening “under the stars” at our very first Parent Alumni event in October. This year, ISKL Alumnus William Birdthistle (Class of ‘91) was awarded the prestigious 2019 Teaching Award from the University of Chicago Law School. While you might imagine his focus during high school was on pursuing a legal career, in fact, William’s passions during his high school years at ISKL were soccer and drama.
I went to ISKL at Jalan Maxwell from 1973-1975, then graduated and moved to Honolulu in August 1975. I had two wonderful years there. The teachers were supportive, creative, and truly loved their jobs. Two teachers stood out for me. First, was Rodney Kling.
Our Alumni hold a very special place in ISKL’s rich history. They are the ones who cemented traditions, created change and built community. They are also part of our vision for ISKL’s future as we work to strengthen our culture and build connections between our current students, parents and faculty, and those who have gone before them.
