Catching Up with…Alan Benson

(Robert) Alan Benson

Now retired and living in the South of France near Nice, (Robert) Alan Benson was High School Principal at ISKL from 2003-2006, his departure coinciding with daughter Chloé Benson’s graduation. Alan had a long career in international schools, having come to ISKL after leadership roles in Abu Dhabi, Vienna and Rabat.

He went on to become Head of School/Director of CIC Caracas in Venezuela before his retirement.

Of his international experience Alan says, “I was lucky to have been with wonderful schools in my career but ISKL remains one of the very best and most formative of my career. I learned so very much about being an educator and honorable person from the ISKL students, faculty, and parents. I also learned to appreciate having fun in all that I do. We had a lot of fun at ISKL while working diligently for others.”

A keen golfer, Alan learned to play in KL in order to participate in the annual ISKL Habitat for Humanity charity golf tournament. Chloé, who now lives in Vancouver and works as a Speech Language Pathologist,  organized the event one year. Alan notes, “This year I made my rst Hole-in-One which will surely surprise anyone who ever saw me play before.”

Fifteen years on and ISKL continues to play a part in Alan’s life. He explains, “The ISKL values including service to others served me well during and after my time there. I still am deeply involved in service here in France giving free guitar classes to nancially disadvantaged kids in the area, trying to help build improved communities here.”
