Four ISKL teams recently competed at the KL “Novel Knockout” Championships where they faced a range of tricky questions on pre-selected books.

ISKL’s transition to the new, purpose-built Ampang campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur presented an extraordinary greenfield opportunity for our specialist Technology team to research, design, and develop a Smart Campus from the ground up. The result is a digital learning space designed around worldwide best practice that is set to reshape how our students learn, study, and collaborate.
Identifying and supporting students with communication difficulties and providing language enrichment throughout Elementary School are critical components of ISKL’s Early Childhood education program. Our speech and language curriculum is led by Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), Kathryn Balsamo who is responsible for ensuring elementary students have full support in this important area by providing in-class lessons as well as intensive one-to-one or group therapy as needed. ISKL is one of the only international schools in Kuala Lumpur offering all elementary students access to a dedicated, in-house, full-time SLP and speech therapy.
We have just completed our second round of Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing for Middle School this year. MAP is an internationally recognized standardized test for assessing the growth and achievement of each student. The tests cover mathematics, reading, and language usage and are not based on the curriculum. We do not “teach to the test.” Instead, the tests, which dynamically adjust to each student’s performance, measure what students know.

A holistic education at ISKL extends well beyond classroom learning and includes a comprehensive program of “service learning” opportunities where students are encouraged to get involved and make hands-on, positive changes within local communities.
A simple idea of to keep a group of Nepali children warm during the harsh winter lead to ISKL Global Action Program (GAP) trip that help students and teachers in Chisapani, Nepal.
