Identifying and supporting students with communication difficulties and providing language enrichment throughout Elementary School are critical components of ISKL’s Early Childhood education program. Our speech and language curriculum is led by Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), Kathryn Balsamo who is responsible for ensuring elementary students have full support in this important area by providing in-class lessons as well as intensive one-to-one or group therapy as needed. ISKL is one of the only international schools in Kuala Lumpur offering all elementary students access to a dedicated, in-house, full-time SLP and speech therapy.
“This was such a great event! My kids did nothing but read when they got home from school today. They are so excited about their own “new” books and each other’s. It’s great to see how excited they are to read. Thank you!”
A holistic education at ISKL extends well beyond classroom learning and includes a comprehensive program of “service learning” opportunities where students are encouraged to get involved and make hands-on, positive changes within local communities.
ISKL Choral Exchange Music Festival Under the direction of international composer, conductor, scholar and music educator, Dr. Andrea Ramsey, the Robert B. Gaw Theatre at Ampang Campus was serenaded with a fantastic celebration of music and culture on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
Over the course of two days, Grade 5 students attended thirteen-20 minute presentations, being inspired as speakers shared personal stories, passions, and experiences, helping students gain an understanding that “ordinary” people can make a positive difference in the world. Change begins with identifying social issues and areas of need in the local community. Students were introduced to a variety of social issues and areas of need in the local community. They were then asked to reflect upon how, as responsible citizens, they might be able to make a positive change.
Novel Knockout is an annual event organised by The Kuala Lumpur Librarian Network (KLLN) which was proudly hosted by ISKL in 2017. Students across 11 schools read eight books and were quizzed on details – short answers on paper and multiple choice on the iPad – for a total of 160 questions per round!
Grade 1 students from Melawati went to see the play “Emily Brown and The Thing”. The play was a stage adaptation of the illustrated children’s book of the same name by Cressida Cowell (writer of How To Train Your Dragon) and Neal Layton.
Famous children’s book author, Marissa Moss, shared her passion for writing and illustration during Book Week at our Melawati Campus.
On February 18, ISKL rang in Chinese New Year with students, faculty, and staff decked out in brilliant red clothing symbolizing ‘Luck’.
