Dear Parents,
It is a pleasure to welcome you and your family to the Elementary division of The International School of Kuala Lumpur. We are a dynamic learning community committed to meeting the needs of all students within a warm and caring environment. Our mission is to provide each child an exceptional education built on current research that challenges each student to develop the attitudes, skills, knowledge, and understanding to become a highly successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizen.
Our school’s standards-based curriculum enables students to think creatively, reason critically, communicate effectively, collaborate constructively, live ethically, and learn enthusiastically.
Within the Elementary School, our aim is to provide a warm and caring atmosphere where we help children to grow and develop into responsible, ethical, caring citizens.
Our school’s diverse co-curricular program provides students with opportunities to explore interests and develop academic, artistic, and athletic skills. Grade-level performances, parent work sharing events and cultural celebration days provide students with opportunities to showcase their learning and to experience live performances.
We look forward to welcoming our students into the Elementary School community!
Yours in partnership,
Julie Olson

Julie is the Elementary School Principal and has been with ISKL since 2016. She has served as ES Principal and MS Principal in Ghana and the US. Previous to her nineteen years as a Principal, Julie was a school counselor and taught Grade 2 and Grade 3 students. She holds a Masters of School Administration in Educational Leadership, a Masters in School Counseling, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Speech Communication.
Our younger learners are guided by The Melawati Way, a code of behavior that encourages students to “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, and Take Care of This Place.” The Melawati Way is named after our previous Elementary School campus and has helped shape the attitudes and behavior of thousands of students since it was first introduced in 1997.
The Melawati Way provides a framework for ES students and teachers to work together in a thoughtful, caring, and polite environment. We emphasize positive personal character traits like cooperation, courtesy, empathy, integrity, kindness, respect, and responsibility. Our school culture emphasizes a caring and harmonious environment that allows for learning to happen.
