As part of the International School of Kuala Lumpur’s ‘ISKL Celebrates 2020’ Gala and Auction on March 7 at the Four Seasons KL, we are excited to welcome Phillip Wong as one of the major highlights at our thrilling event!
The celebrated contemporary Malaysian artist will be painting live an exclusive piece inspired by his ‘Ocean’ series. His finished piece will be the highlight of the Gala’s Live Auction, with proceeds supporting the ISKL Inspiration Fund.
Phillip will soon be launching his solo exhibition ‘OCEAN: REFLECTIONS OF THE HUMAN MIND’ on February 20, 2020 at the Sutra Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition is hosted by the Sutra Foundation together with cultural dance extraordinaire and artiste, Datuk Ramli Ibrahim.
Inspired by an old painting Phillip first created in 1986 when he was only 18 years old, the exhibition will feature paintings and art installations which attempt to bring into play the metaphor of the ocean-waters as the mirror in which we look at ourselves.
Born in 1968, this Seremban-born Malaysian artist graduated with a Diploma in Commercial Art 1990 at the Malaysia Institute of Art and since then has won a multitude of awards such as ‘Art Curator of The Year 2019’ for STYLO Malaysia Fashion Week, and Malaysia’s ‘Top Fashion Artist – Top 5 Asian’ at the Fashion Asia Awards 2016 in China.
One of Phillip’s art pieces was recommended for acquisition at his latest exhibition in China and also selected for discussion at an art forum by a renowned international art critic. He also is the founder of Artseni Gallery and sits on the Board for the National Art Gallery of Malaysia since 2008.
We are thrilled to see Phillip’s commitment in supporting our youths and being a part of shaping their education, and we look forward to seeing you at the ISKL Celebrates 2020 event to catch Phillip in action!
