Each year, one of the IASAS schools hosts a High School Dance Exchange which brings our student dance community together for a series of dance workshops and collaboration opportunities. Next week, ISKL is hosting the Dance Exchange and thanks to the ISKL Inspiration Fund, we are able to bring in ten members of the E.sperimenti Dance Company from Italy to work with our students.
Members of the Dance Company have split up and are currently at each IASAS school working with JIS, ISM, ISB and SAS students prior to arriving in KL. The combined efforts of each school will culminate in a workshop performance on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the Robert B. Gaw Theater. This performance is open to anyone who is interested. So far, the reviews are great!
Michael Cali, from JIS says, “I’m really excited to see what this year’s dance exchange will bring. This past week has been absolutely incredible with the two artists that my students have been working with from E.sperimenti. In all of my time in Jakarta, I think these guest artists have been the best I’ve worked with. They are amazing teachers and have connected so quickly with the students on a level I have not seen before from guest artists. They truly are an organic group. They are so great at assessing the students they are with and catering to what they need. I have been blown away by what I’ve seen from all my students – freshmen to seniors – in just a week. All of the dancers in the company are such dynamic performers and they really do come from diverse dance backgrounds – but they go beyond technique and just ‘learning the steps.’ They really pull out the honest human emotions from the beautiful movement they create.”
A bonus feature of the upcoming weekend is a performance by the E.sperimenti Dance Company in our Robert B. Gaw theater on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 8:30 pm which is open to members of our community with prior booking (see below). This performance is jointly sponsored by ISKL and the Italian Embassy here in Kuala Lumpur.
A further bonus feature for ISKL is that three members of the E.sperimenti Dance Company are arriving early in KL and will be offering free Dance Masterclasses on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, September 13-17, 2019. Although it’s a holiday weekend, for students who are staying in KL, this is an excellent indoor activity possibility that is indoors and out of the haze! These classes are open to all ISKL students GR6-12 and students from Mt. Kiara have also been invited to attend these workshops. Teachers, Staff, Administration, and Parents can also sign up to take the masterclasses, but if there is a critical mass of students, then we will prioritize for them. This is the first time we are trying to mix multi-age and multi-ability groups in a dance workshop and we are hoping for a good turn out! As suggested by the dance company’s name… it is, indeed, an ‘experiment’ and the start of something good in our K-12 campus! Please see the schedule below and sign up on E.sperimenti Masterclasses:
