The International School of Kuala Lumpur’s (ISKL) annual International Festival (iFest) was the ultimate family friendly event celebrating diversity, amazing food and respect for each others’ cultures. Held on November 16, and organised by ISKL’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the event saw the entire ISKL community come together as one to celebrate all the differences that unite them as a school.

ISKL’s goal is for students to live their lives with empathy, respect, and an understanding of the complexity of global connections, and to be empowered by, and equipped with the knowledge and skills to take action on a personal and social level to make the world a better place. Celebrations such as iFest bring ISKL’s commitment to global citizenship to life with over 30 parent-run stalls selling food from around the world, as well as musical and cultural performances which involved all members of the community and celebrated a wide variety of cultures.

There were also more than 60 external vendors and charities selling merchandise and promoting awareness. Student-led High School clubs embodied social entrepreneurship and reflected the broad range of students’ passions, interests and service commitments. There was also a children’s play area which included giant inflatables, a haunted house, and the opportunity to dine under the stars in Arabian tents. And that was just the start!

All the money raised from iFest is donated to ISKL’s Inspiration Fund and used to benefit current and future students. Funds raised at last year’s event have contributed this year to ISKL’s new grand piano, dance workshops, cheerleading coaching, inspirational visits by Chris Koch and the YoungLeaders. World team, the Middle School rooftop garden, and a series of visiting authors.

iFest is a massive community effort and ISKL recognizes and thanks the iFest Committee, PTA, and the many staff, faculty, parents and students who put in so much time and effort to create such an amazing event.
