The Parent Teacher Association’s – International Fest Event brings together the ISKL community to celebrate the uniqueness of their many nationalities, highlighting their belief that individual and cultural diversity enriches their lives. It was an opportunity for all ages in the ISKL community to enjoy a day of food, entertainment and fun from around the world.
The Ampang campus saw the halls adorned with the national flags of all the countries represented at the school, totaling 64! The day began with the opening ceremony ribbon cutting, followed by a colorful spectacle of their flag parade, which progressed around the school led by Head of School, Dr. Norma Hudson and drummers, led by a faculty member, Will Chisholm.
One of the most popular elements of the International Fest is the opportunity to smell, see and taste many diverse foods! Parents and Faculty from 24 countries set up food stalls selling delicious sweet, savory, hot and cold treats. The Ampang campus was transformed into an international food court decorated with colorful souvenirs from around the world!
A variety of cultural performances were held on an open-air stage with constant lively, colorful performances which were enjoyed throughout the day and added to the international atmosphere. Both children and young adults from the community proudly participated in their International Fashion Parade. The entertainment was live-streamed to screens around the school campus and via the internet throughout the day.
Several NGOs such as Gerai OA-Heritage Crafts of the Orang Asal Minority Group of Malaysia, Helping Hands Penan-Crafts Made by the Ladies of the Penan Tribe in Borneo and MYCAT Malaysia Conservation Alliance for Tigers were also invited to the event to promote and sell handicrafts produced by them. The Chin refugee kids had a blast taking part in the cultural show and having fun on the inflatables!
Activities for all ages and interests were set up all around the school, whether it was shopping for unique or specialty goods at the bazaar, trying your hand at the high school student clubs or cultural group games or bouncy inflatables of all shapes and sizes, there was fun for everyone.
The International Festival is truly a community event that takes many months of planning and many hours of Parents and Teachers volunteering, and staff transforming the school campus to make something fun and positive happen for the ISKL community.
