There was immense excitement in the air on campus earlier this month, with our whole community eagerly anticipating our first post-pandemic Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools (IASAS) athletic championship of the season! From October 7 – 9, ISKL hosted the IASAS Soccer Championships at our own Home of the Panthers while the rest of our participating Cross Country and Volleyball athletes traveled to the International School Bangkok (ISB) to participate in their respective tournaments.

For those unfamiliar with the IASAS, the conference of school competitions started in 1982 and, since then, has evolved to six schools taking part from around the southeast Asian region. IASAS has widely been recognized as one of the world’s premier international school activities and athletics events and is an excellent opportunity for students to experience cross-cultural travel, engage in sportsmanship, and teamwork, and, most of all, forge and strengthen friendships.

After a three-year hiatus of in-person IASAS activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was a heartwarming sight to finally welcome players in person from other schools, parents, and supporters to be part of one of the major highlights of the high school year!

Over in the ISKL Ampang Hilir campus, our Soccer teams played exceptionally well with great strength and determination. Our Boys team gave their all by securing the Bronze medal, while the Girls team fought extremely hard, showing true grit and resilience. Even when some games were moved to the old Ampang campus due to torrential rain, our teams kept their spirits high, playing their best. The atmosphere at our campus was electrifying during the entire three days, with lively cheering from the spectators dressed in blue and yellow – the ISKL colors.

Meanwhile, in Bangkok, our Cross Country teams ran hard, with many runners achieving their personal bests as they crossed the finish line. Our Boys Volleyball team scored second place, bagging the silver medal, while the Girls Volleyball team battled their hearts out despite some strong opponents.

Whether our athletes compete at home or away, we are immensely proud of their skills, passion, and drive. Long after the scores become a distant recollection, we will never forget the camaraderie, intercultural collaboration, and friendly competition we experienced. Our teams finished the season with excitement, high spirits, and anticipation for the next season, and we are thrilled to share this unique experience with our ISKL community.

Thank you, Panthers and our fellow IASAS participants, for giving us such a thrill of a season!
