This article has been slightly amended and was initially written by ISKL’s High School (HS) Service & Sustainability Team.

The October break came and went, and here we are in November already. The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was to end on October 27, but it has been extended until December 6. Do we know if it will end on that day? Or will it be replaced by a stricter form of MCO? It looks like we will not be able to visit freely with friends and family a while longer, especially those living outside of the Klang Valley and Malaysia. What will happen to our current situation and plans? Plenty of uncertainties and anxieties lie ahead.

So, how can we stay motivated and engaged with life during such a challenging time? One way to put things into perspective is to turn to history and learn how human beings have surmounted various challenges and devastations to date.

Another way is to create your own ‘history’ document by starting your own ‘COVID-19 Pandemic Journal’ to look back on. There are so many different kinds of journals, but to remain constructive and cultivate habits that lead to further resilience, it may help start with the ‘Gratitude Journal.’

According to a journaling website called Penzu, keeping a gratitude journal could bring you three benefits in the long run:

  1. Get your priorities straight

  2. Correct your perspective when it’s skewed

  3. Become a more optimistic person

Follow the steps here with the five suggested prompts and give it a try. You never know what you might discover along the way!

Happy Journaling! Continue to take good care of yourself and your loved ones, and stay safe and well.
