“We value students who strive for excellence in all areas, and we provide the breadth of opportunities for students to find their passions, and excel at them. When thinking about what we value, we wish to align what we recognize and affirm, with our beliefs and our guiding principles.

In order to do that, there are a few considerations we observe when delivering recognitions as an inclusive school:

Acknowledgment of effort – Not all awards are for only the highest academic scores. We value a high level of intiative, curiosity, and persistence in learning. Dedication and Passion awards are part of our ceremony.

Secondly, A breadth of criteria to include a wide range of talents and achievements in order to allow for a greater representation of abilities (not just academic excellence awards). You will see athletic, service and citizenship recognitions today.

Finally, transparency is important in order to preserve the integrity of the process. Clearly defined and communicated criteria, an inclusive nomination procedure, and a trustworthy selection process are central when granting acknowledgement.”

These were the opening words of The International School of Kuala Lumpur’s (ISKL) High School (HS) Principal Jeff Farrington, at ISKL’s 2023 Senior Awards Ceremony which was held on June 2 for ISKL’s 154 graduating students. At ISKL, the Senior Awards annual tradition recognizes students who have shown exceptional dedication and passion for academics, sports, visual and performing arts, and community service.

Congratulations to all the recipients! We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

PTA Visual and Performing awarded to Lucy McLean AllumPTA Visual and Performing awarded to Lucy McLean Allum

“She is a dancer, stage manager, a stage costumer, a photography student, ceramics artist, a graphic designer, a fashion designer, a metal smith, a glass blower, a painter, and a graffiti artist and literally on and on. Aside from all that she has done, it is more powerful to reflect on who she has become or, as Michelle Obama would say, “becoming.” Although a shy and introverted person Lucy used art to make sense of her world and to ground herself in it. She has all the qualities I think to be a successful artist: passion, resilience, focus, and above all, courage. “ ~ Tina Casey, HS & IB Theatre Teacher

A Junior or Senior who demonstrates outstanding creative performance and superior ability in the arts will be the recipient.
