ISKL has embraced this concept with our comprehensive Food Technology program which is part of the Middle School curriculum. The aim of the program is to not only develop our students’ understanding of food but also to appreciate its many roles and functions.
With this experience, our Grade 5 students have gained an understanding that “ordinary” people can make a positive difference in the world. Affecting positive change and becoming socially responsible global citizens is a fundamental component of ISKL’s commitment to providing students with a well-rounded holistic education, and inspiring them to be future changemakers.
Student Council (StuCo) is a welcoming group of people that everyone in middle school is free to join. In StuCo, we plan upcoming events such as the MS party or TAG days. The MS party is an event that everyone in middle school is open to go to.
These students exhibit tremendous courage and confidence under enormous pressure. Their perseverance and incredible talent always elevate their performance. This event is rewarding and life-changing for the talented students selected. The High School teachers and students alike are excited and can’t wait to get this show on the road!
The school is an Eco-School Model for other International schools to follow and learn. They are a showcase of the benefits of the eco-school program. ISKL is always thinking about cost savings without decrementing its education standards.
Our school called this Agency 3.0 and gave us this opportunity to pursue our dreams and do what we wanted to do. Agency allows all students to pursue their dreams and do what they want to do so that they can all become who they’re meant to be.
With the stunning backdrop of the KL city skyline visible from the Elementary School rooftop venue, ISKL’s Parent Alumni came together for an evening “under the stars” at our very first Parent Alumni event in October. There were plenty of hugs as old friends caught up for the first time in years, and took the opportunity to reminisce and look to ISKL’s future.
We are delighted to welcome Malaysian Paralympic athlete, Muhamad Ashraf Bin Muhammad Haisham (Ashraf), and his trainers to ISKL as we commence a new partnership with the Malaysian Paralympic Development Program for their athletes to use our excellent facilities to train in the lead-up to the games in Tokyo in September 2020.
This year, ISKL Alumnus William Birdthistle (Class of ‘91) was awarded the prestigious 2019 Teaching Award from the University of Chicago Law School. While you might imagine his focus during high school was on pursuing a legal career, in fact, William’s passions during his high school years at ISKL were soccer and drama.
Over the past four years, the robotics after school program in ISKL’s High School has supported and provided the opportunity for groups of students to acquire programming and engineering skills with the end goal of attending the Formosa VEX Robotics Competition, hosted by Taipei American School (TAS) held in December each year.
This past week the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) participated in the worldwide Inclusive Schools Week sponsored by the Inclusive Schools Network.
George Jahnke from Touch NZ was at ISKL during the last week of November to run a series of coaching and training sessions for ISKL Touch, Rugby and PE students and coaches. George is a Touch legend, having represented New Zealand more than 100 times at Open and Masters level.
