I went to ISKL at Jalan Maxwell from 1973-1975, then graduated and moved to Honolulu in August 1975. I had two wonderful years there. The teachers were supportive, creative, and truly loved their jobs. Two teachers stood out for me. First, was Rodney Kling.

As part of their ongoing work, they have reached out to students across the school divisions to take part in trash pick up, along with the Trash Hero KL group on Saturday morning; meet at Pretz n’ Beanz at 9:00 am.
The International School of Kuala Lumpur’s (ISKL) annual International Festival (iFest) was the ultimate family friendly event celebrating diversity, amazing food and respect for each others’ cultures. Held on November 16, and organised by ISKL’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the event saw the entire ISKL community come together as one to celebrate all the differences that unite them as a school.
As parents and educators, we understand how important a connection to the natural world is and how crucial it is for young children. To see and touch butterflies, birds, worms and lizards, not to mention flowering and edible plants, enhances every child’s understanding and wonder of the world around them.
ISKL’s Elementary School Grade 2 teacher, Alex Lancia had heard these words too many times. The tub where his second graders store their headphones was resulting in many being broken. He decided to do something about it. He asked his students to try to solve the problem of where to put their headphones so they won’t get broken.
This past week, our music department had the honor to welcome Dr. Jeffrey Boeckman from the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa as a conducting guest artist. His time here started with a Conducting Symposium in the Robert B. Gaw Theatre where he was able to give an incredible experience to local Malaysian conductors and music students.
Our Alumni hold a very special place in ISKL’s rich history. They are the ones who cemented traditions, created change and built community. They are also part of our vision for ISKL’s future as we work to strengthen our culture and build connections between our current students, parents and faculty, and those who have gone before them.
“Fun party,” says Charli, a student who went on the Cambodia 9 Global Action Program (GAP) trip, when asked to sum up the trip in a couple of words. I think it is safe to say that many other students on the trip agree with the “party” in that phrase. “Tiring party,” Jiya adds. “Exciting party,” George says. I personally was not too eager to go on this trip at the beginning.
ISKL’s Middle School (MS) Student Agency initiative is designed to empower students to experience more voice and choice in how they learn which, in turn, supports the development of “future-ready” skills. The initiative empowers students to develop and practice important life skills such as initiative, calculated risk-taking, and belief in oneself in a supportive environment.
At the recent annual East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) Leadership Conference ISKLs Elementary School (ES) Principal and Assistant Principal, Julie Olson and Azra Pathan shared their experience in navigating large scale change and leading inclusion. In their two EARCOS workshops, our ES Leaders contextualized their journey, and shared their learning and practical tips with the delegates who attended from international schools across the region.
High-caliber auditions recently took place for the 27 spots on the music team for IASAS Cultural Convention which will take place on March 6-8, 2020. The competition was tough and the 8-member teams for strings, vocals, and band have been chosen along with three pianists.
CulCon is an amazing opportunity for our students to showcase their amazing talent and hard work, creating pieces through various media such as photography, painting, drawing, as well as mixed media.
