Earlier this year, one of Malaysia’s leading publications, Malaysia Tatler, interviewed Mr. Rami Madani, our new Head of School here at The International School of Kuala Lumpur. In the wide-ranging interview, Rami explained his philosophy on 21st-century learning, his thoughts on future-proofing education, and the importance of inclusion, partnerships, sustainability, and service.
The feature article written by Tania Jayatilaka, “Are We Ready For The Future Of Learning? 7 Questions With The New Head Of School At ISKL” shares Rami’s reasons for joining ISKL, which we were delighted to read include our unique community, culture and approach to learning: “I visited ISKL in 2007 and was impressed by the quality of its people and leaders as well as the culture, the feeling of community and the good balance between being highly professional and yet maintaining a strong sense of autonomy. What’s most telling at ISKL is that students are valued and respected; education is not ‘done’ to them, but with them. That approach, in itself, is unique.”
As the incoming Head of School, one of Rami’s focus areas will be looking at what else we need to do in order to provide the best future-ready learning for our students. It involves stimulating student agency, creating the right environment for such learning and working with partners in the community on sustainability and service.
