Cathryn Berger Kaye, M.A., president of CBK Associates was at ISKL from July 31 – August 3 to work with teaching faculty across the divisions as well as student leaders on the development of best practice in the incorporation of service learning in the curriculum as well as leadership training. As the first Professional Development opportunity in 2015-2016, her visit was deemed a success by both educators and student leaders alike.
This was Cathy’s third visit to ISKL with her work as foundation to all being done here in Service Learning. Her process for integrating service into the curriculum has been adopted at ISKL and has also been adopted by the International Baccalaureate program (IB) for the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) component. This alignment has been key for ISKL.
“This time with Cathy, who is known globally for her work in service learning, was transformational for our entire community,” said Laurence Myers, Director of Sustainability and Service Learning at ISKL. “As teachers, we always struggle with how to incorporate service elements into our curriculum that are grade appropriate – and further – how to make these experiences meaningful. Cathy’s visit helped put us on a clear pathway”.
