We have now had our first week “back at school” after the Spring break and I hope that you and your children are settling into the new normal and adjusting to learning remotely. More than ever, we are grateful for the strength of the partnership between our parents and school and we very much appreciate all that you are doing to support your child/ren with Continuous Learning.

Community feedback regarding Continuous Learning continues to be extremely positive. During the week I have joined many virtual classes and meetings and I have been impressed with the upbeat, creative and productive ways in which our students are engaged in their learning. We do, however, understand that it can be challenging to keep children, especially our younger learners, focused at home and that it is also particularly hard for parents who are working from home to supervise Continuous Learning at the same time. So please take care of yourselves, remember that some days will be better than others, and don’t forget that our counselors and faculty are available to support both you and your children.

I am also grateful to those who completed our parent survey. Your feedback is valuable and insightful, reflects the strengths of ISKL and also provides us with many great ideas and suggestions for the future. I will be sharing the results in detail with you in the near future. My thanks to those who joined me for the HoS Optional Virtual Sessions this week. It was so wonderful to connect with you and I am truly filled with gratitude for our supportive community. Some parents asked if we can continue to offer optional sessions, we are delighted to do these optional sessions for as long as there is interest. The next session will be on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at 2:30 pm.

Just as our community adjusts to the new normal so too does the rest of the world. As I read the news I appreciate how lucky we are to have homes, food, water, and of course technology to keep us connected to those we love around the world. There are so many who are not as fortunate both globally and here in Malaysia. The 100% Project is a fundraising initiative founded by the Alumni of ‘Teach For Malaysia’ who have joined forces with government-linked companies to form the GLC Disaster Relief Network and pool resources in order to assist with funding for medical equipment needed by Malaysia’s health system. Information about supporting this extremely worthwhile cause can be found here.

This unprecedented experience is a catalyst for all of us to remember what matters most, not just as individuals but as a global community. The focus of the global challenges highlighted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are now more important than ever in creating a sustainable future, and so too is our mission and vision in supporting students for their future role in transforming conditions for themselves, others, and the world around them.

We very much hope to re-open our campus on April 15 but, as you will appreciate, the situation is fluid and will depend on guidance from Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and other Government authorities, as well as our own assessment. We will continue to keep you updated as we get closer to the date.

In the meantime, I hope you and your family – wherever they are in the world – remain safe and well.
