Malaysia Week Magic
The magic of Malaysia Week continues this week! It truly is one of the highlights of the Middle School calendar and it gives us great joy to see our students so excited to be participating in activities on campus and at the various sites across Malaysia. Such experience is particularly important as we emerge from the pandemic and related challenges. We know that students benefit enormously from the experience of being taken out of their comfort zone in a safe and supportive environment. In addition to developing new skills, it builds resilience and inner confidence. It also fosters a wonderful sense of camaraderie and the opportunity to expand friendship groups and make new connections. This is reflected in the smiles and laughter we see when groups return to campus and in the photos and videos shared by Malaysia Week organizers.
Eco-Schools Green Flag Re-accreditation
I could not be more proud of our students and school than I was earlier this week during the re-accreditation visit by representatives of the WWF Eco-Schools Green Flag program. The full-day visit was the culmination of a huge amount of work done during the year by students, faculty, and staff. The day included presentations from students about how our sustainability initiatives are linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the cross-over with their learning, as well as campus tours, practical demonstrations, and Q&A sessions.
From the way the SDGs are integrated into the curriculum school-wide, how energy, water, waste, and transport initiatives are implemented, the sustainable design of our facilities, and the projects undertaken by our ES Changemakers, MS and HS clubs, and student leadership teams, we demonstrated our school’s active commitment to sustainability. Along with the Eco-Schools representatives, I was deeply impressed by our student’s knowledge and their ability to communicate and share their passion for helping to shape a better world.
We are also extremely proud that ISKL was the first school in Malaysia to be awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag in 2012. It is a great achievement to receive this internationally recognized and highly respected eco-label which denotes high performance in environmental education and management practices. My thanks to all those who are involved in showcasing all that our school is doing and a special thanks to Ms. Celia Cookson for her leadership in this area.
PTA & Parent Appreciation
It was a great pleasure to have the opportunity to say thank you in person to the many wonderful volunteers who support our school at the PTA Parent and Volunteers Appreciation morning this week. Quite simply, our school would not be the same place without you. We are so appreciative of the time, energy, expertise, and enthusiasm that you devote to our students and school community—thank you!
HoS In Partnership Session
A reminder that we will be holding the last Head of School and Parents in Partnership session for this academic year on Tuesday, May 24. I will be presenting the 2022–2026 Strategic Plan, including our new Vision and Mission, and am looking forward to the opportunity to connect with you, share our future plans, and say thank you in person for your support.
In partnership
