We were promised a unique experience and the Middle School play (November 15-17) has truly lived up to that promise. The 65 cast and crew members have been rehearsing since mid-October and their hard work was evident in this stunning and atmospheric production.
It was a very special experience to gather in the Dr. Norma J. Hudson Amphitheatre at sunset to watch this moving and powerful performance. Our thanks and congratulations to all those involved for this inspiring adaptation of the novel The Weight of Our Sky by internationally acclaimed author, Hanna Alkaf. Our gratitude also to the community members who responded to the call for stories from that period and enhanced the understanding of the performers by sharing their lived experiences with them. Connecting their stories with the narrative gave the cast and crew additional depth and insights as did the inspiring visit by the author herself (November 15) who shared her perspective on telling stories to a global audience and the power of storytelling in fostering unity from diversity.
It is, of course, our differences that unite us all here at ISKL and we have a very special event coming up on Saturday, November 25 that sees our whole community come together as one – our annual International Fest.
Our heartfelt thanks to the International Fest Committee and all the volunteers who are working so hard to make this special day such a memorable celebration of our community. It is truly a community-inspired event with students, parents, staff, and faculty putting in so much time and effort in the lead-up to the event.
For those who are new to ISKL, iFest is a much-loved tradition with a history spanning more than 50 years. Organized by our amazing PTA, it’s an event that involves our entire community and includes parent-run stalls selling food from around the world, musical and cultural performances, games and activities, as well as student clubs, charities, and external vendors selling merchandise.
We also have another much-loved tradition to look forward to next Friday (November 24) – our annual ES Flag Parade. It is an uplifting experience to see our students bearing the flags of the diverse nationalities enrolled at our school and another wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate our diversity. It is always heart-warming to see the way our students respect and take care of each other and to see our value of Empathy & Care in action.
