ISKL is recognized for offering a solid international curriculum that merges leading North American educational frameworks with global best practices. At ISKL, we believe that every student learns differently and intend to equip our students with the skills, competencies and passions to determine their pathways as global citizens.

From Elementary to High School, ISKL’s results consistently outperform regional and worldwide averages. This includes our results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which typically sees over 20% of our students achieve 40 or more points, ranking them in the top ten percent of IB Diploma candidates worldwide.

ISKL’s education is unique in offering such a wide range of high-quality, transdisciplinary pathways that enable every learner to choose the curriculum best suited to their abilities, interests, and aspirations.

You can find some support on how to choose a curriculum for your child here.

Why did ISKL choose to develop our own curriculum pathways?

Developing pathways allowed ISKL to create the best educational experience for our students. At ISKL, we also work with students to develop an academic program suitable to their goals, strengths, and interests.

We believe that our success in preparing students for their future depends on how well we support them in developing 21st-century skills today. ISKL’s education is designed to enable students in Elementary School (ES), Middle School (MS), and High School (HS) to develop and practice these critical skills.

How ISKL developed its curriculum pathways in High School

The hallmarks of ISKL’s High School program are quality, choice and flexibility. Our approach is unique in offering a combination of wide-ranging and high-quality pathways that are designed to enable every learner to choose a curriculum that is best suited to them — a best-fit approach.

Our educational approach is incorporated into our school’s vision— Know yourself, care for all and create a better world — and involves the concept of international-mindedness, encouraging our students to explore their passions and interests, to achieve their goals, better understand themselves and create positive change in the world around them.

Check out this video from Jeff Farrington, the High School Principal at ISKL, discuss the innovative High School pathways available to our students. Watch the video here.

Our students find that by tailoring their educational program to their interests, aspirations and passions, they are able to leverage global opportunities, irrespective of their chosen pathways as the curriculum provides every opportunity for our students to achieve strong academic results as shown by our worldwide averages.

What are the curriculum pathway options at ISKL?

In addition to the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, ISKL offers two innovative study pathways, PRAXIS (Grade 9) and the Pursuits Program (Grade 11 and 12), which focus on enhancing student agency and self-directed learning.

PRAXIS

Aimed at Grade 9 students, ISKL’s PRAXIS fosters an interdisciplinary approach to learning, reimagining the school experience at ISKL. The basis of this program is anchored in complex and real-world challenges where students step into a future-ready learning environment.

Students should expect to feel empowered in their creative exploration and effective collaboration by utilizing problem-solving skills. ISKL also invites mentors and guest speakers to come and provide students with real-world experience and knowledge.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

ISKL has been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to provide the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) since 1989. ISKL is an IB World School known to have the longest-running IB program in Malaysia.

The IBDP is a challenging pre-university curriculum that prioritizes learners at the center of the model where teaching and learning go hand in hand. Students must enroll in six different subject areas that will inform the build of the academic rigour. They are also required to complete three core areas that complement their education experience holistically.

The IBDP is a cornerstone of the academic experience at ISKL, providing a challenging two-year pre-university curriculum that leads to a qualification recognized by universities worldwide.

Pursuits Program

ISKL’s innovative Pursuits Program is a two-year course for Grade 11 and 12 students who want to gain recognition for a targeted area of study, as well as for students who would like to sample a career-related field of study.

The syllabus is built upon three pillars — Area of distinction, Self-directed learning and Pursuit practicum — drawing from the wide range of courses offered at ISKL. It facilitates the student experience to take a deep dive into many areas of distinction, much like choosing a major in college.

ISKL’s Pursuits program encourages students to pursue their dreams, find themselves, and explore opportunities and pathways centred around their interests and strengths. Students have the opportunity to personalize their own learning experiences and pursue their career aspirations.
