“My most memorable moment at ISKL is unfindable – literally!
So many things have happened to me over the years I’ve been here that have made me feel so many different things that I can’t pin one down.”

Born in India, Sukriti G. (’26) moved to Malaysia when she was just two months old and eventually joined ISKL as a Prep Senior (PS) student. A keen participant in Performing Arts clubs such as Junior Varsity vocals and the Thespians Honor Society, Sukriti is also part of Peer Helpers and loves to be involved in the ISKL community.

Here is Sukriti’s story:

POISKL Sukriti G ProfileDo tell us more about yourself.

My name is Sukriti, and I am almost 15 years old. I was born in India, but when I was just a couple of months old, I moved to Malaysia! For the first couple of years, I was in a local preschool, and when I was five years old, I joined ISKL as a Prep Senior (PS) student. I’ve only lived here, so Malaysia and ISKL will always be my home.

I have seen many of my friends and teachers leave, but I’ve seen so many join as well!

Do you participate in any co-curricular activities at ISKL?

Yes! I participate in many different activities, and they are mainly creative.

Firstly, I am a part of Peer Helpers and I love to be involved in the ISKL community; being there for others has always been one of the things I value the most.

I am also a part of ISKL’s Junior Varsity (JV) vocals team as I love, love, love to sing! The JV vocals team allows me to do just that with a fantastic group.

And lastly, I am part of the Thespians Honor Society. Along with singing, I enjoy drama and acting a lot – I’m pretty much Performing Arts oriented.

What are your plans for after you graduate from ISKL – what would you like to do?

Well, I have so many options. When I go to college I will have some ideas for a major. My primary choice is to do something in the Performing Arts. I love to perform, and anything involved in this area is awesome!

Recently, I’ve also been thinking about Psychology, not exactly as a first option, but not precisely as a plan B. I have plenty of time to discover possible career paths and think about what I want to do in the future.

Can you tell us more about your other hobbies and interests?

Other than what I do in school, music is a big part of my life as I love to sing and play the piano. Even listening to music is so important to me and is a hobby considering I do it so much!

Reading is also important to me; sometimes, I cannot read because I have so much going on (even as a freshman). But when I finally make time for reading, I feel so free. I can get lost in books for hours and find it so magical. I’m happy I discovered my love of reading at a young age.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

Honestly, sometimes it isn’t easy to see what the future holds. Sometimes you know exactly what’s coming, and sometimes you don’t! I have many hopes and dreams for what I want the end to be and what I want to happen. But for now, my main goal is to have fun and enjoy time with my friends and family. I want to make memories.

Who or what inspires you or has influenced you?

My brother is one of the people who inspires me the most. He is seven years older than me, and that’s one of the reasons we’re so close – we don’t fight as often!

I look up to him, and he’s helped me through so much and introduced me to things I now love. He pushes me to do something I might not think I can, helps me see my potential, and teaches me so much about life. He’s the kind of person that doesn’t make me want to be him or be like him but instead makes me want to be a fantastic person.

What is your most memorable moment at ISKL?

My most memorable moment at ISKL is unfindable – literally! So many things have happened to me over the years I’ve been here that have made me feel so many different things that I can’t pin one down.

The start of 5th grade and 6th grade, my 8th-grade Moving-On-Ceremony, stepping off the bus into the High School (HS) section on the first day of 9th grade and hugging my best friends on the last day of school, saying “goodbye,” saying “hi, nice to meet you,” going on trips, planting trees, joining teams, holding hands, taking that final bow, applauding till my hands hurt, receiving a medal – all of it! Everything that has happened to me here is memorable because every single bit of it has been important.

What does “Know yourself, care for all and create a better world” mean to you?

This phrase can be interpreted in so many different ways by different people. But for me, I’m not sure yet.

My interpretation of ISKL’s vision statement will change as I grow older and have new experiences. But for now, it means taking time and looking within yourself. Understanding who you are and knowing who you want to be within your limits and strengths. Then, to care for all means bringing betterment to your community. Support your family, friends, classmates, and people you might not know well. And in finality, if everyone does this, it will help create a better world.

It reminds me of the Melawati Way from Elementary School (ES). “Take care of yourself. Take care of others. Take care of this place.” I’ll never forget those three simple phrases, which, no matter your age, should always ring true.
