Welcome back to all our Malaysia Week students! It was great to see the excited and happy faces of our Middle School students as they arrived on campus from 16 sites around Malaysia yesterday (May 11). We know that students benefit enormously from this unique experience which combines service learning, outdoor adventure, and skill development. The fun and camaraderie will live long in their memories, and the skills, resilience, and inner confidence developed over the past week will last a lifetime. We look forward to hearing about their learning and adventures and seeing the photos at the Middle School Malaysia Week celebratory assembly on next week. Our thanks to the Malaysia Week organizers and parents who volunteered their time to help make this amazing experience possible.
Music Masterclasses & Concerts
Amazing experiences are a hallmark of school life at ISKL, and the masterclasses and concerts by visiting pianist Irina Krasotina over the past couple of weeks have been truly amazing. Our students benefited enormously from the masterclasses and the concert performances on May 3 and 9 were sublime. We are so proud of all the students who participated and the passion they demonstrated – it was wonderful to have our students emcee the concerts and a delight to listen to High School violinist Naiema S. perform a solo with Irina during the encore of her last concert. Our sincere thanks to ISKL parents Beatriz and Vasily Pasetchnik for sponsoring Irina’s visit and for sharing the joy of music with our community. Proceeds from the concerts will go towards ISKL Inspire, a dedicated fund established to enable community members to collaboratively give back to ISKL for the benefit of current and future students. Our appreciation also goes to our Advancement and Music Teams for their thoughtful planning.
Special HoS & Parents In Partnership Event, May 24
I hope you will be able to join us for a special end-of-year HoS & Parents In Partnership presentation on Wednesday, May 24, when I will be sharing why cultivating a culture of inclusion and belonging and developing global citizenship skills are so important for our students. We will explore how they support and contribute to academic, social, and emotional growth and look at the intercultural skill sets needed to flourish.
The event also includes a special VOX ISKL panel discussion with our Elementary and Middle School Counselors, a High School student, and an Alumni representative from the Class of 2016. The panel will share their perspectives and real-life experiences about the skills and mindsets that are important in navigating different cultural contexts safely and how parents can help nurture these capabilities at home. All parents are welcome to attend and the event is also open to non-ISKL community members. To register, click HERE by May 22, 2023.
Exams!
It is exam time for some of our High School students. Those taking AP courses completed their exams last week, IB exams finish next week, and Grade 11 will begin their exams on May 29. We appreciate that it can be a stressful time and we want our students (and parents!) to know that we are here to support them.
In partnership,
Rami Madani
