HoS News October 14, 2022

HoS Rami Madani PortraitCultivating passions and competencies is a key component of our Mission and it has been great to see our students engaged in such a broad range of activities school-wide that provide opportunities for them to explore new interests, learn more about themselves, and put some new competencies into practice.

After weeks of preparation and anticipation including our final Global Action Program (GAP) assembly this morning, our students are ready to go! This weekend will see 440 students from Grades 9-11 set off on their GAP experience with Grade 9 students heading to locations in Peninsular Malaysia, Grade 10 to Borneo, and Grade 11 to Bali, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

For those who are new to ISKL, GAP is a truly unique HS experience combining service learning with outdoor adventure, that enables our students to gain different perspectives, develop new skills, and build their global understanding. It helps foster essential life skills such as resilience, confidence, and collaboration. We wish our Panthers a fantastic GAP trip and look forward to hearing about their learning experiences.

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe MS PlayThis evening we have the final performance of our High School play, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. I had the joy of being in the audience for Thursday’s performance and cannot tell you how impressed I was with the talents, passion, and professionalism of the actors and crew. The acting, set design, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and tech were amazing and it was a truly magical experience to be immersed in the land of Narnia. In addition to seeing our students pursuing their passions on stage and behind the scenes, it was also wonderful to have our theater packed with students, parents, faculty, and staff creating such a supportive environment – a testament to our culture of care and dynamic community.

Our librarians do an amazing job of championing reading and helping our students become critical thinkers. They also make reading books and as you will see in ES Library news below, our Elementary students have been celebrating their passion for reading with our annual ES Book Week. The week has been filled with a variety of reading-related activities including visiting authors, book tasting, competitions, and today’s Book Character Dress Up Day. We’ve had a fantastic variety of creative costumes bringing favorite characters to life and it is great to see our students so engaged and enthusiastic about reading!
