We are extremely proud to be playing a part in helping to increase Malaysia’s vaccination rates with students from more than 100 schools in the district receiving their vaccinations at our Centre so far. Special recognition goes to all the teams working so hard to make this happen including our wonderful volunteers – you are amazing and we so appreciate your help. If you haven’t visited our Centre, please take a look at the video here to get a sense of the scale of the operation.
We always love to see student agency and self-direction in action and we were very proud of our Middle School students who completed their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing this week. Staying focused while undertaking these tests from home is not easy and their ability to take this in their stride and remain on task is a testament to the important life skills they have gained.
MAP is an internationally recognized standardized test for assessing individual student growth and achievement. The tests are not based on the curriculum and we do not “teach to the test.” Instead, the tests, which dynamically adjust to each student’s performance, measure what students know. Once all make-up tests are completed our teachers will use the data and insights to develop strategies to stretch and support each student’s learning as well as reflect on any big-picture curricular adjustments required. Standardized tests such as MAP are one of many sources of data we use to gain a complete picture of a child’s learning and progress so that we can best support them.
We are also happy to report that work is continuing on our Elementary rooftop playground. As you can see in the photos, the two swing frames have been erected which is no mean feat as the timber (literally) weighs a tonne. We are looking forward to seeing the rest of the playground and gardens take shape over the coming weeks and will keep you updated on progress.
