Our community is united by our school’s Vision and Mission and the importance of this was truly evident during the presentations given by our parents standing for election at the Meet the Candidate session prior to this week’s AGM. So too was the passion, dedication, and expertise they bring to our students and school. We thank the PTA for hosting the session and the Society members who joined us, and congratulate the newly elected Board who will serve our community.
Board member effectiveness takes time and commitment in order to develop an understanding of the Board’s knowledge base, ISKL’s context in learning, operations, and history, and accreditation standards for governance. With this in mind, we are delighted to welcome back 10 returning board members and US Embassy appointee, along with three new members. We are truly fortunate to have a body of parent volunteers so willing to commit their time and energy over the next three years to ensure ISKL continues to provide the best possible education and learning environment for our students.
As always, it has been a full week for our students, particularly for those in High School considering their university options. Admissions representatives from around 30 universities have been on campus this week to talk with students about their programs, institutions, and university life. These visits are part of an ongoing schedule arranged by our HS Counseling team that brings higher education representatives from countries around the world to our campus to meet and talk with students.
Many of our students apply to universities in multiple countries. For example, last year’s graduating class received 480 acceptances and offers from universities in 13 countries with many from universities in the top 50 of QS World/Country University Rankings including Yale and Brown in the US and Cambridge and Imperial College London in the UK. Along with the specialist support of our counseling team, being able to meet higher education representatives from different countries and institutions is a critical factor in helping students decide which country, which university, and which course will be the best fit for their goals and needs. Over the next three days (September 22-24) we are delighted to be hosting the IASAS Invitational/Twin Towers Volleyball Tournament involving six different schools including Dalat International School, International School Bangkok (ISB), Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), Singapore American School (SAS), Taipei American School, and Yangon International School. We invite everyone to join us for the tournament which will be held in the Jungle and ES Gym. A big thank you to our Booster Club for making our visiting schools and their families feel so welcome. Other IASAS Invitationals include Soccer at SAS, Cross Country at ISB, and Dance at JIS. In MS, our U15 football teams will be playing at the British International School Kuala Lumpur while our ES students will be participating in a cross country race at Alice Smith School this weekend. It is truly inspiring to see our students pursuing their passions and embracing the spirit of competition, camaraderie and cultural cooperation with their peers in international schools here in KL and around the region.
