Welcome Back to All Our Families

middle school students happy facesFirstly, welcome back to all our families. Whether you stayed home here in KL or ventured overseas I hope you enjoyed a relaxing and happy holiday, and are ready for a learning-filled, action-packed semester! Also, on behalf of our entire ISKL community, I extend a very warm welcome to our 60 new families who joined us this semester, and hope this first week has been a smooth transition for both you and your child/ren. We are looking forward to getting to know you and we are happy that you have chosen to join our unique and collaborative community.

At ISKL we firmly believe that the purpose of school is to prepare students to be successful in their lives – this is fundamental to our mission and vision. Our purpose is not only to support students in developing the 21st century learning skills needed for university or work, but also to prepare them to transform and improve conditions for themselves, others and our world. This belief starts in Elementary School with the Melawati Way which encourages students to “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, Take Care of This Place” and continues throughout Middle and High School.

To achieve our mission and vision we create learning experiences that enable students to develop key skills and dispositions (attitudes, values and beliefs) that not only prepares them to be future-ready but also helps them understand the importance of their contribution to our world. Every student has differing interests and aspirations, and we know that our mission is best achieved when we give students voice and choice in their learning, and support them in developing their passions and competencies. We are therefore excited to be launching some new pathways in High School starting in August 2020. This will complement our rigorous academic program, and will provide greater flexibility for our students to engage in impactful learning and skill development.

Our rising Grade 11 students will have more options to pursue pathways that are meaningful to them, their passions and aspirations with the option of taking the new two-year Pursuits Programme which will be offered in addition to the IB Diploma Programme. Further details provided at the Grade 10 parent information evening being held on Tuesday, January 21. In addition, Grade 9 students will experience more opportunities to engage in problem-based learning which will help them strengthen their ability to innovate, engage in real-world issues, and develop their entrepreneurial capabilities.

The introduction of these opportunities and options are testament to our commitment to ensuring ISKL’s learning program is innovative, forward-looking, and most importantly, relevant to the future of our students. As a school, it is vital that we maintain a growth mindset and continually strive to strengthen the relevance of the education program which supports our mission and vision. We are very much looking forward to the start of these new initiatives and providing students with even greater flexibility to tailor their learning experience to their needs and passions.

Yours in collaboration and learning,

Rami Madani
Head of School
